There’s some very simple and clear advantages of using a light up dog collar, I’ve listed them below for quick reference.

The collar is made of heavy duty webbed nylon and includes a chrome plated D-ring, which is perfect for quick attach/unattach of swivel clasps that you’ll probably already have on your existing lead. The collar itself also has a buckle, which makes it easy to put the collar on and take the collar off for when it’s not needed. Despite all these features, the collar only weighs in at 85 grams.

2nd: Illumiseen LED Dog Collar
Running the Masbrill to a close 2nd place, is the Illumiseen LED dog collar.
It is actually a very good light up dog colloar, but it was awarded 2nd place purely on the fact that the battery life isn’t quite as good – the battery lasts for up to 5 hours, however, it does only take 1 hour for a full charge.
As I say, the features are very much the same – it’s made of strong, durable nylon type material, it’s waterproof and comes with a buckle for putting the collar on and taking it off again, a D-ring for connection to a swivel clasp on your current lead, and 3 lighting modes – continous light, slow flashing or rapid flashing.
There’s also a button on the front of the collar to turn the LED’s on and off, and the same button is also used to cycle through the 3 modes.
There’s 6 colours to choose from, but there is an added benefit that this collar comes in 7 different sizes, including extra small and extra large.
It’s in 2nd place, but make no mistake, this is another great option for dog walkers who want their beloved pet seen by others, and to ensure dog and owner aren’t seperated on walks in low light conditions or where viewing obstructions can occur.

In 3rd place is the tube dog collar – it’s literally exactly how it sounds. And okay – it’s not technically a collar, but it’s worth a mention anyway.
Do you remember going to fairgrounds as a child, and winning those LED necklace type things?
Basically, this is what this is.
it’s waterproof, it comes with a rechargeable battery, has numerous colour variations and can be cut to size.

Are They Expensive?
A light up dog collar can be purchased for just a few pounds, and will often not cost much more than a regular, standard dog collar.
If you regularly walk your dog in low light conditions, or in wooded or areas flanked by foliage, it’s an absolute no brainer to purchase one of these collars to give your dog that extra little bit of visibility.
Do I Need To Change The Batteries Often?
All of the illuminated dog collars listed here have built in batteries – no need for changing batteries, – ever!
Simply plug the USB cable into a USB port, and the lithium battery is recharged in just a few hours.
Summary
If you regularly walk your dog in hours of darkness or in low light conditions, or in areas where your dog can become camouflaged in overgrowth or foliage, and you regularly let your dog off the lead to go and do its thing, then an LED dog collar is an absolute neccessity in my opinion. Even the RSPCA recommend these collars.
Of course, another essential item is a good dog walking torch, to allow you to see where you are going as well as allowing you to quickly sweep an area looking for any dangers ahead.
These collars look and act like a traditional collar, just with the added benefit of LED light visibility, ensuring you and your dog don’t become lost from one another, as well as increasing the safety of your dog, allowing them to be more visible to other people, cyclists and vehicles.
